About

Some of my favorite experiences in the wild have started without knowing exactly what I was going to find. I love the unpredictability of it the possibility that an ordinary morning can turn into an encounter I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Photography gives me a reason to keep seeking out those moments, but more importantly, it gives me a way to remember them.

My photography has taken me from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, where I work as a wildlife guide, to the forests and national parks of southern Africa. I spent nearly two years living in rural Zambia as a Peace Corps Volunteer, an experience that fundamentally changed my relationship with Africa and ultimately gave me the opportunity to spend far more time exploring and photographing its wildlife.

Sometimes the photograph comes together. Often it doesn’t. But the experience of being there has always mattered just as much to me as what comes home on the memory card.

That idea is at the heart of my Vivid Memory Collection.

These ten photographs aren’t simply what I consider some of my best wildlife images. I chose them because each one takes me back to a particular animal, place, or moment that I don’t want to forget. Every photograph has a story behind it, and I’ve included those stories alongside the images because I believe knowing what happened beyond the frame can make a photograph mean more.

I hope one of them means something to you, too.
